When their late police captain gets linked to drug cartels, wisecracking Miami cops Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett embark on a dangerous mission to clear his name.

Whenever I head to a far flung place overseas with limited internet access, I always take the time to download movies from my favorite streaming services onto my tablet. Inevitably, I always return to the 90’s action movies that I grew up with as a kid - films like The Rock, Con Air, Snake Eyes, and Face/Off

Strangely, there’s something awful comforting about those movies with their bombastic action, quirky characters, and belly laugh inducing comedy. Perfect comfort action flick. Bad Boys Ride or Die fits firmly in this camp too. Filled with enthralling action set pieces and laughs a plenty, Bad Boys Ride or Die is a cracking popcorn blockbuster that demands to be seen on the big screen.

The reputation of Conrad Howard (Joe Pantoliano), the beloved captain of detectives Mike (Smith) and Marcus (Lawrence), has been posthumously besmirched. After his death, Conrad is framed as an informant for a Mexican drug cartel as a way to cloak more sinister corruption. Our detectives set out to clear his name.

It’s been a long time since I’ve heard a cinema laugh as much as they did in the screening of Bad Boys Ride or Die. It doesn’t just have a couple of moments, it's super funny throughout, mainly due to Martin Lawrence - I forgot how funny that guy really is.

And this sets the whole tone for Bad Boys Ride or Die. It’s not trying to re-invent the action genre, it’s not trying to be anything that it’s not. This is summer blockbuster fare at its finest where you can curl up in your comfy cinema chair, eat your Skittles, and sit back and be entertained for a couple of hours.

The action sequences are insane, with multiple edge of your seat moments, always set at a really frenetic pace. Of course, as you’d expect, there are a couple of unbelievable moments including a white gator and a couple of exploding gas canisters but who cares? Don’t think to deeply about it - sit back and enjoy the ride.
