When two weddings are double-booked at the same venue, the father of one bride and the sister of the other bride try to preserve the wedding weekend.

I couldn’t think of a more unlikely pairing in a rom-com than Reese Witherspoon and Will Ferrell and I can’t quite put my finger on why that is. But whoever in the world of casting and movie creation landed these two in this film is an utter genius. It hands down, totally works on so many levels. While You’re Cordially Invited follows a well trodden rom-com path, through the charisma of its two stars Witherspoon and Ferrell it delivers a breezy and funny watch.

You’re Cordially Invited sees two weddings accidentally booked on the same day at the same venue. Chaos ensues as Jim, the father of the bride (Will Ferrell), and Margot, sister of the other bride (Reese Witherspoon), chaotically go head-to-head as they stop at nothing to uphold an unforgettable celebration for their loved ones.

While I mentioned earlier that You’re Cordially Invited follows a well trodden rom-com path, the way that it gets there is kinda unique. Initially the focus is on the two brides to be and, as the story progresses, the complications that lay within their respective relationships. But as we hit the second act, it begins to be more about Jim (Ferrell) and Margot (Witherspoon) and their constant one-upmanship.

The film has some truly laugh out loud moments from Jim battling to understand the Gen Z lingo to the verbal zingers exchanged between him and Margot to wrestling an alligator indoors, You’re Cordially Invited has it all.

I ended up watching You’re Cordially Invited twice but a couple of months apart. And even after that time I still found it as funny as enjoyable the first time around which I reckon is a mark of a great rom-com.

You’re Cordially Invited is bolstered by a great supporting cast which includes Margot’s sister played by Meredith Hagner (who was dastardly brilliant in Apple TV’s Bad Monkey), rising star Geraldine Viswanathan who plays Jim’s daughter, and the ever classy Celia Weston as the mother of the bride.

But this film really does belong to Witherspoon and Ferrell who bring their cracking charisma and boundless energy to the roles which makes You’re Cordially Invited a streaming invite that you wanna RSVP to.

While You’re Cordially Invited follows a well trodden rom-com path, through the charisma of its two stars Witherspoon and Ferrell it delivers a breezy and funny watch.
